LingSync is a suite of open source software tools designed to facilitate linguistic fieldwork, language documentation and linguistic research by enabling collaborative data creation and curation and, as a consequence, promoting data sharing and data reuse. LingSync has been used to support the teaching of at least 12 linguistics field methods courses in Canada and elsewhere.
In this workshop Joel Dunham will provide
- a description of and argument for LingSync, including the considerations and contexts that motivated its creation and design decisions
- a hands-on tutorial of the “LingSync Spreadsheet” one of the in-production graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for LingSync
- a demo of new components currently under development, in particular the new GUI called “Dative”
Pizza and soft drinks will be provided at the workshop.
